Image Comics is pleased to release Giselle’s Memories, a shocking youth graphic novel by Italian cartoonist Katia Vecchio (Silver Vessel, Colored). It centers on childhood abuse and trauma, and centers on Giselle, a young girl haunted by repressed memories of her grandmother.

The book depicts her and her brother navigating the “vulnerable territory of a childhood marked by hidden abuse, silence, and loss. Gisele struggles with the memory of her late grandmother and a single recurring image, a symbol of the truth she has suppressed for years. Chased by an empty boat. As adolescence draws her into a confusing realm of desire, vulnerability, and trust, pieces of her past begin to align, revealing long-buried stories that cast a shadow over her and her brother’s current lives.
This book was Vecchio’s first work with Image and her first published work. “Giselle’s memories are the stories I had to tell to give form to experiences that often remain untold,” she says. “My hope is that through Gisele’s journey, readers will find the courage to look at their own pain with compassion and understand that acceptance begins with acknowledging what you’ve carried.”
“Memories of Giselle” will be in comic shops on June 17th and in bookstores on July 14th.
