Hundreds of years into the future, people around the world have gotten used to living without technology and have returned to a simple way of life without the use of any kind of machinery. It’s all thanks to a technological uprising and subsequent war that destroyed most of Earth’s population and caused the wealthy to flee the world rather than deal with the mess they created, leading to the current status quo.

A teacher named Samara educates her young students about world history, but something is coming that will forever change the accepted view of the past and Samara’s understanding of her own heritage…

Written by Drew D. Lenhart and illustrated by Del Ballas, this graphic novel tells a fun, pulpy sci-fi story that begins with a very standard robot uprising and transforms into something very different as it progresses.

There’s also quite a bit of social commentary here, which makes the setting feel particularly relevant and contemporary. That said, the robot’s design and overall aesthetic has a very retro-futuristic vibe. For example, the robots have more than a touch of Metropolis or Buck Rogers, just with spikes added to give them a bit more of a menacing vibe. Artist Barras has a clean, attractive, and simple pencil style with great clarity in terms of storytelling and some really fun action sequences.

The story itself moves along at a fair pace, even though it includes two long exposition sequences to let us know what actually happened after the apocalyptic events of the past. There are a few moments where it feels like events are unfolding a little too quickly, such as the characters’ sudden acceptance of important events, but given the reasonable page limit and the amount of setting, action, and unusual developments, it’s hard to be too harsh on this reason.

Indie publisher Homebrewed Comic is also doing some really interesting work with Samara and Rangers of Centaria. They essentially created their own crowdfunding platform to fund the publication of their graphic novel. The campaign starts on July 8th. You can check it here.

Thanks to creator Drew D. Lenhart for providing an advance digital copy of Samara and the Rangers of Centaria for review.

Hello! I’m Jason. I write articles for midlifegamergeek.com every day. If you’re interested in supporting original, regularly published, human-generated content (that’s never been plagiarized or copied through the efforts of other writers), please help us keep this site running by making a donation.

Not only do I not earn any money from my writing here (although I do earn a small commission from affiliate links posted on my page, but as an Amazon Associate I do earn from qualifying purchases from these links), my work sometimes seems to be stolen and repurposed by lazy, morally bankrupt idiots.

There’s no pressure, of course, but we really appreciate any support you can provide. You can easily support us through Ko-Fi.com/geekmid or the PayPal link.

Thank you very much for your donation. I would also like to thank you for taking the time to read my article. Please remember. This entire article is by Jason Brown and can be found at midlifegamergeek.com. Take that, Skynet!

Please support me here!

All donations are gratefully received and will not only help me keep the lights on here, but will also help keep my writing dreams alive. However, please understand that there is no pressure. I hope you enjoy reading my article.
