Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is one of the video games that feels like they’re made to suit your fanbase. In addition to spinning around Power Rangers, its time travel stories and retro aesthetics, the side-scrolling beat “M-Up Mechanics” is a mechanic that was the majority of many ’90s games, and it’s an explosion to play. Now Rangers fans can enjoy the official comics going with this game alongside Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind #1.
Rita’s Rewind #1 follows a game-like story. After the events of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Always, Robo Rita goes back in time to help young Rita Repulsa eventually kill the Power Rangers. The current team at Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers dates back to 1993, but they must avoid causing paradoxes as the original MMPR team is still active.
This simple but effective setup allows writer Zoe Tunnell to provide a story that will hit hard in the action and emotional departments. Modern MMPR teams use mostly wisdom and karate skills. In Billy Cranston’s case, his immeasurable intelligence fights the monsters that Roborita and past Rita throw. There is also an internal joke about fashion in the 90s, and the fact that people had to walk where they wanted to go before Lyft or Uber became a thing.
The emotional part comes from the fact that Min, the current Yellow Ranger, has the opportunity to potentially connect with her late mother, Trini. It was one of the best parts of his time, and it was always that it was exploring Min’s journey to becoming a Yellow Ranger, while also paying tribute to the late Tui Tran. Tunnell continues this storyline by building the most difficult heart-cracking moments. If I’m honest, it’s such a type of moment that’s worth picking up Rita’s rewind #1.
There is also a pull list worthy of tango art. Tango’s work captures the high octane animation style of Rita’s rewind game. There is a juice bar where the Rangers hang out. This should be the most 90s place ever. Thanks to Adam Guzowski’s eye-opening colors, it feels like a true Power Rangers story.
However, it is only topped by an action sequence featuring the Ranger itself. Whether they are undyed or altered, the way tango draws them is a sight to be seen. It moves with fluidity and intensity that must be considered believed, capturing not only the gaming’s enthusiastic energy, but also the original Mighty Moprhin Power Rangers series.
Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind #1 is based not only on the video games it is based on, but also on the mythos’ Power Rangers mythology in an amazing way. Whether you’ve played the game or not, this is worth reading and may even have some readers play the game (I highly recommend this).
