Nintendo’s latest hardware isn’t the Switch 2

We kept waiting, but Nintendo finally did the right thing and announced all-new hardware. Unfortunately, this isn’t a new game console, but rather a very Nintendo-ish smart alarm clock. Alarmo has a motion sensor and can snooze based on your movement. (There’s also a physical snooze button.)

You can also check how much you move while you sleep, and the clock plays sleep sounds and music.

Set your watch’s background to scenes inspired by Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 3, Pikmin 4, Ring Fit Adventure, and more. The company says it plans to add more games as updates in the future. And when it’s time to wake you up, Alarmo uses music and sounds from those games.

At this time, Antiques is only available if you are a Nintendo Switch Online member in the US and Canada. As of the time I finished writing today’s TMA, the watch was available for purchase on Nintendo’s UK site, although other regions would have to wait. The $100 Alarmo is available to order online now, and Nintendo says it will be available in retail stores early next year.

While other classic albums are often remastered for big anniversaries, Green Day (with the help of an art studio called Brain) went in a lo-fi direction. Re-release music in very limited editions, obsolete and/or (very) inconvenient formats. As a result, you can hear what “Basket Case” sounds like through Big Mouth’s “Billy” bass, and you can hear “Welcome to Paradise” on a Game Boy cartridge. Other formats include answering machines, toothbrushes, animatronic stuffed animals, floppy disks, doorbells, Fisher-Price records, Hitclips, and (this is crazy) minidiscs.

If you’re interested in what Tesla has planned for robotaxis, you’ll probably want to take advantage of a later version of the robotaxis. While we don’t expect to see a fully completed vehicle at the company’s long-delayed robotaxi event, investors and Tesla fans are hoping to see a working prototype. Elon Musk, the high-flying Tesla boss, started talking about robotaxi plans years ago. But it took on added significance earlier this year when Tesla was reported to have shelved plans for an entry-level electric vehicle in favor of a self-driving ride-sharing project.

It’s been a tough week for digital libraries.

This week, the Internet Archive was hit with a series of DDoS attacks that took the service offline. The Verge noticed the pop-up on the site when the online database went down. After that the popup disappeared. The attack appears to have taken place just as the Internet Archive was about to uncover a previous breach of its site that led to the theft of more than 31 million records. A DDoS organization known as Blackmeta claimed responsibility for the attack with a confusing message that the platform “belongs to the United States.” The Internet Archive is headquartered in San Francisco.
