In 1512, a Spanish expedition landed on the Yucatan Peninsula in search of the legendary Mayan city of gold. Sorolla, a grizzled old soldier filled with remorse, seeks oblivion in a foreign land. When the commander kills one of the natives, Sorolla rebels against the force to save her child from a similar fate. The quest for the city of gold turns into a manhunt. The two flee through the jungle in search of a place where they can escape the onslaught of Spanish soldiers that follow. But deep within that jungle, in the heart of an ancient city, lie giant warriors waiting to be summoned with a vengeance.
28-year-old Vede (full name Alejandro Vede Cavallar) is a self-taught comics and concept artist from A Estrada, Galicia (northwest Spain). His minimalist yet evocative artwork has garnered a following on social media, with over 100,000 followers. Instagram. His previous professional credits include four sketchbooks and mini-comics such as Redemption, La Entrada, and A Rocky Road. At 80 pages, Yucatan 1512 is his longest work to date.
